Bowe Robert Bergdahl (born March 28, 1986 in Sun Valley, Idaho) is a 25 year-old United States Army soldier who was captured by the Taliban while serving in southeastern Afghanistan in June 2009. At the time of his capture, he was a Private First Class (E-3) and a member of 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division, based at Fort Richardson, Alaska. On June 12, 2010, he was promoted to Specialist (E-4) during his captivity. On June 12, 2011, Bowe was promoted to Sergeant (E-5) with the promotion certificate presented by the Army to his parents. SGT Bergdahl went missing on June 30, 2009. The Taliban has released several videos of SGT Bergdahl in captivity.
